Werth-It Fundraising and Consulting
Katherine Wertheim has been a professional fundraiser for more than 20 years and a fundraising consultant since 1988. For six years, she was director of development at Emmaus Services for the Aging in Washington, D.C., where as sole development staff she tripled the revenue, quintupled individual donors, increased major donors by 1000%, and conducted their first capital campaign. Before that, as a fundraising consultant to Bread for the City, also in Washington, she helped turn around a struggling organization, increased the number of individual donors by 500% and tripled the revenue in just four years.
Nationwide Teacher
She also worked in the fundraising divisions of the American Red Cross National Headquarters and Special Olympics International Headquarters. She has taught dozens of boards of directors about fundraising and board development. As the number one-ranked teacher (of 170) for the Institute for Policy Studies, she taught more than 100 classes in fundraising nationwide. She has also traveled to help clients working in Malaysia, Chile and Nicaragua.
Served on 8 Boards
Katherine has been on eight boards of directors at the local, state and national level for about 36 years of service, and has held every officer’s position. She completed 1,000 hours of volunteer service for Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic in 2003. She has a bachelor’s degree from Occidental College, Los Angeles, and has taken additional courses in fundraising from The George Washington University and The Fundraising School at Indiana University.
Services include:
Seminars
We teach fundraising across America throughout the year, and internationally by arrangement. Contact us for the next seminar near you.
Individual Coaching by Phone
You can sign up for fundraising coaching by phone. It’s expensive: it costs more than a personal trainer but less than a therapist! You’re also expected to do your homework, which means that for every 50-minute session on the phone you are expected to do about five hours of reading and research on your own. On the other hand, we always set goals and it is time-limited. Together, we’ll determine your needs and decide on fees in advance, so that there are no surprises.
On-site Workshops
We can bring in a trainer to conduct a workshop specifically for your board and staff members in the city of your choosing. It would be tailored to your situation, and you can invite as many people as you want. You can schedule it on a weekend or a time suitable to you.
Audio Conferences
You can purchase a CD of Katherine Wertheim’s audio conferences.
Direct Fundraising
Finally, we actually fundraise for a select group of clients. We provide turn-key fundraising where appropriate: we do everything from planning to implementation. We write direct mail copy and turn it around very quickly, often within days. We can write grants, prepare case statements, and help you redesign your board of directors. We can also help evaluate your current fundraising and provide recommendations as to ways to improve it. We do not discriminate on the basis of size: unlike others we will work with small organizations. We generally work on a per-project basis, so that you know what we will do and how much it will cost before we start. You always work directly with a fundraising professional, not with marketing staff who sell our services. And we NEVER, EVER sell products such as cookies or magazines. That’s not fundraising, that’s product sales.
